we woke up Sunday morning (6/29/08) to find a couple of bird feeders had been demonished. After inspecting the damage and looking on-line at other reports in our area where bears had been found scavanging bird feeders, we deduced this must have been the culprit.

The Sheppard's hook that was bent over is made of 3/8" wrought Iron. Raccoons would not have the weight or leverage to bend over. The mounting plate that attached the the barn feeder to the pole was bent in multiple directions, and again, deer and Raccoons could not inflict that damage.

The Barn feeder had both plexiglass windows broken out, the floor ripped out and one of the suet feeders destroyed. (note to self - always buy hot pepper suet. The bears and squirrels don't like the heat.

The double suet feeder was pulled a part and all of the suet was eaten.

we will see if the bear returns. We have repaired the double suet feeder and filled it with hot pepper suet, and we left all of the other untouched feeders "as is".
